VDL Metaal introduces a new generation of shelters designed in-house, combining affordability with a sleek, considered design. Sustainability, ease of maintenance and lower costs were central to the development, without compromising on quality or appearance.
The innovative design offers several roof options, including clear safety glass for a modern look or a sustainable sedum roof that contributes to biodiversity.
Thanks to its optimised construction and efficient use of materials, this shelter is a cost-effective solution for local authorities, public transport companies and other organisations responsible for managing public spaces.
For Global Media & Entertainment, one of the largest outdoor advertising operators in the Netherlands, we developed a transparent bus shelter concept. By keeping the number of supports to a minimum, visibility remains optimal and the shelter has a light, open appearance. The distinctive design features round supports and a roof with rounded corners, finished with sedum, glass or integrated PV cells. With this concept, Global won the tenders for Sittard-Geleen and Gooise Meren.
The Tomei shelter was developed with Global Media & Entertainment and combines a modern appearance with a smart, sustainable construction. Thanks to the use of specially developed tubes, materials are used efficiently, resulting in a low ECI and CO₂ footprint.
The modular system offers maximum flexibility, with a choice of multiple grid layouts and roof depths. In addition, the shelter can easily be extended or adapted to changing requirements and locations. This makes the Tomei a future-proof and cost-efficient solution for public spaces.
For the R-net public transport network, we produced a high-quality and recognisable family of bus shelters that combines comfort, accessibility and a strong brand identity. The modular shelters provide a comfortable waiting area with up-to-date travel information, energy-efficient lighting, seating and optimum protection from the elements. The distinctive red canopy makes the stops recognisable from a great distance and enhances the visibility of the network.
Alongside the stop, we produced a complete product family, including platform furniture, cycle facilities and the visual identity. The design creates a consistent passenger experience, from finding the stop to reaching the destination. All stops are fully accessible and can be adapted flexibly to a wide range of situations and sizes.
De Aqui abri has been a familiar sight in many Dutch cities for years. What makes this shelter distinctive is its high degree of reusability. In practice, it has now been proven that this shelter is ideally suited to a second life. Thanks to its high-quality steel structure and durable finish, existing shelters remain in good condition and are redeployed after refurbishment. The steel retains its quality, making refurbishment an attractive alternative to replacement. By recoating the shelter, it is given a fresh appearance and can last for many more years. In addition, the transparent roof can be replaced with a sedum roof. This not only further extends the shelter’s lifespan, but also contributes to a greener living environment.
